“But it’s not MY fault!” How many times have your heard that? Sadly, I hear it pretty much every day. As people we don’t ever really like to take responsibility for our own actions. We always want to blame someone or something else for the situations we’re in or for the stupid things we do. Honestly, it’s our nature.
Proverbs 19:3 says, “People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at God.” It’s no fun to admit when we’ve done something wrong. It’s no fun to say I’m sorry when we’ve hurt someone. It’s no fun to accept that we alone are in charge of the thoughts we think, the words we say and the things we do and we have to accept the consequences of all of those things.
I know some people that have had some terrible things happen to them. They have been victimized very badly and in those situations they didn’t have any control and that is very sad. Now, the difficult part for those people is to realize that they are in charge, they are adults with children and grandchildren, they make their own decisions now and their decisions they make now is what is ruining their life. Their decisions now is what is making them miserable. They blame God and everyone else around them.
Myself, I’m a survivor. I was a victim, but not anymore. I know that I am in charge of my life and the decisions I make. I pray that if you are reading this and you’re in a place where you feel helpless or you feel that you are trapped by other’s decisions that you will realize you aren’t. In Galatians we read that we are free and that it was for freedom that we were made. You are free. You make your decisions. Sorry, I’m not a calvinist so I believe that you decide who you are and what you do and the consequences of your actions fall on you. I believe that God loves you enough to give you that freedom. It’s your choice… don’t blame God.
